MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Migrants are beaten up in Lithuania and threatened with weapons in order to clandestinely drive them across the border to Belarus at night, the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.
According to the source, two groups of refugees were delivered to the Belarusian border by Lithuanian border guard personnel. “Just like their Polish colleagues Lithuanian enforcers chose the tactics of clandestine forceful expulsion of migrants at night in several directions at once. Lithuanian enforcers beat up migrants and use weapons to threaten them in a bid to secretly expel them to Belarus' territory at night,” the Belarusian border service said.
The refugees told the Belarusian border service that they had been caught and detained in Lithuania, loaded onto vehicles, and moved to the border in groups at night. “At the border line they were threatened with weapons, including weapons being aimed at their heads. Tear gas and electric shockers were used to force the poor people to go towards Belarus. Migrants say that all of them have requested asylum in Lithuania and had contacted the Lithuanian authorities with requests for asylum,” the source noted.
Military personnel of the Lida branch of the Belarusian border service provided the necessary aid, food, and water to the people at the border line. The frightened foreigners were truly grateful for humane treatment on the part of the Belarusian border service.
