Metropolitan Veniamin: Belarusians have every opportunity to preserve spiritual, moral values

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) - Despite the current challenges, the Belarusian people have every opportunity to preserve their identity, spiritual and moral values, and the country has every opportunity to take a worthy place in the emerging world order, Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, said at the meeting of President Aleksandr Lukashenko with representatives of religious denominations in Minsk on 10 February, BelTA learned.

The head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church emphasized the need to preserve traditional Christian values, as their destruction, he believes, will lead to the loss of the spiritual core, the unique foundations of the Belarusian statehood. He identified patriotic education and preservation of traditional family values as the most pressing issues.

“As is well known, people become a nation through shared memory. Memory is most strongly preserved and transmitted in the family. Therefore, the role of the family is important not only in solving demographic problems, but also in patriotic education,” Metropolitan Veniamin emphasized.
“This is why the dehumanization of the family, the idea of it as a burden is the basis of liberal ideology,” he added. They portray the family as a factor limiting freedom. Although in reality it gives a person the joy of finding the meaning of life, the opportunity for spiritual rebirth.

“Unfortunately, family traditions and the continuity of generations were partially lost, among other things, because young parents in the 1990s and later sought to bring up their children according to popular Western books. This is why it is so important today to offer young people an image of a strong, close-knit family, of course, not throwing ourselves into the archaic, but taking into account modern conditions and the future,” he said. “Christian values of love, mutual assistance, the joy of joint labor and communication… This is an image of such a family, a truly happy family. I believe that if we combine the efforts of the state, public and religious organizations, we will succeed in family education”.

“Despite the current challenges, the Belarusian people have every opportunity to preserve their identity, spiritual and moral core, and our country has every opportunity to take a worthy place in the emerging world order. The main thing is for everyone to work together to achieve this goal,” Metropolitan Veniamin emphasized.
