Medics alarmed by growing reluctance to wear face masks in Minsk

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – There is a growing concern about Minskers' unwillingness to take precautions to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection. The epidemiological situation in Minsk and other matters were discussed by the Minsk City Council on 15 March, BelTA learned from the Minsk.Officially Telegram channel.

According to Chief Sanitary Inspector of Minsk Svetlana Yermak, the incidence rate of acute respiratory infections in Minsk is the same as in the previous years.

The number of coronavirus cases remains at a plateau after a continuous decline in January and February. However, the necessary precautions are not observed as strictly as before at places of mass gatherings. Last week, sanitary inspectors toured 453 places and recorded a number of violations of health and safety measures. Some staff members did not wear face masks properly or did not have personal protective equipment. Not all outlets conscientiously observed the disinfection requirements.

Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev urged to maintain an unwavering focus on the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that people in charge of the entities that disregard the coronavirus safety measures should be punished.
