NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 27 June (BelTA) - Russia and Belarus are witnessing consistent and diverse development of their trade and economic cooperation, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko said, BelTA has learned.
“The leaders of our countries always place special emphasis on interregional cooperation. Recently, Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko, speaking at the Federation Council (it was a great honor for us to host him), said that сomprehensive cooperation with the regions is very vibrant. Certainly, in some areas the pace is excellent, while in others it is still picking up steam. But overall, trade and economic relations between Russia and Belarus are developing steadily and across multiple areas,” Valentina Matviyenko said.
According to her, the Forum of Regions is the foundation of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “It is our responsibility to deepen and expand mutually beneficial interregional cooperation,” the speaker emphasized.

Valentina Matviyenko stressed that such meetings are an opportunity to exchange successful experiences and best practices. “I look forward to a very open and trusting dialogue. These meetings at our forums have become a tradition, and many issues raised by heads of Russian and Belarusian regions have been resolved,” she added.
A meeting between Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko, as well as leaders of government bodies from the constituent entities of Russia and the regions of Belarus, is taking place on the sidelines of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Nizhny Novgorod.
