GRODNO, 1 July (BelTA) - The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is in great demand and brings real benefits to our countries, said Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

“This is the ninth time we have gathered for such a meeting. This forum is very popular because it brings real benefits to our regions and our countries in general. I am sure it will further expand and develop,” Valentina Matviyenko said.

According to her, every year more and more Russian regions get involved in cooperation with Belarus. “When we launched the forum, there were mostly border regions among its participants. Now all the regions and cities from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad and across Belarus are involved in the process. More agreements are signed every year. At this forum alone we are expected to sign 28 new documents of different levels,” the speaker said.

Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko took part in a meeting with the regional authorities of Belarus and the Russian Federation on 1 July. The program of the forum's day two will also include the plenary session “The role of interregional cooperation in deepening the Union State integration processes”. Attending the event will be heads of ministries and departments, government agencies, enterprises and organizations, representatives of Belarusian and Russian business.
