MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) - It is important to resist attempts to distort history and to preserve the truth about the war together, Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, said during the plenary session of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
“Our Great Victory was forged by valor, courage, and selfless love for the Homeland of all the peoples of the Soviet Union. In the year of the 75th anniversary of the Victory, the presidents of Belarus and Russia opened the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet soldier in Tver Oblast, which we see as a symbol of the indestructible brotherhood of our people cemented by the joint fight against Nazism,” Valentina Matviyenko said. “It is impossible not to see the attempts to build a policy of violence and illegal sanctions today. This is why it is so important to join efforts to counter attempts to distort history, to preserve the truth about the war, to pass it on to future generations. Here the Russian and Belarusian peoples are on the same page,” she noted.
The head of the Federation Council welcomed joint historical research, join projects to publish books and make films about the war. "The main thing here, in my opinion, is truthfulness, strict adherence to the facts, and drawing the right lessons. Equally important is the digitization of information about the places of battles of the Great patriotic War,” she stressed. “I am sure that the panel discussions on this topic during the forum, practical recommendations will help preserve the historical truth, expand joint efforts to counter the glorification of fascism, to foster patriotism and civic responsibility of our youth."
