NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 27 June (BelTA) - The Union State of Belarus and Russia is one of the most successful and resilient integration organizations, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko said during the plenary session of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
“Nowadays, the Union State can be objectively called one of the most successful and resilient integration alliances. It is built not only on common interests, but also on deep trust, equality, and common history and values of our peoples. Together, we are moving forward. Our integration is not standing idle,” Valentina Matviyenko remarked.
According to her, 28 large-scale Union State programs have been successfully implemented in just a few years. “Major projects are underway in nuclear energy, fundamental science, and space exploration. A treaty has been signed to establish a unified electricity market. Russia and Belarus abolish roaming charges. More than 20 Russian regions are now connected to cities in Belarus by direct air service. Trade and investment figures are breaking records,” the speaker noted. “There are countless areas of our cooperation. But what is fundamentally important is that in today’s turbulent and uncertain world, we continue to strengthen ties not only in the economic, humanitarian and high-tech sectors, but also in national security. Our leaders have taken decisive steps to enhance defense cooperation within the Union State.”
