MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – Belarusian and Chinese universities are building long-term practical contacts, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said in an interview with BelTA.
“Higher education institutions of Belarus and China have signed more than 700 direct cooperation agreements. Currently, more than 12,000 Chinese students study at educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus. About 1,500 Belarusians study in China,” he noted.
Sergei Lukashevich emphasized that all leading Belarusian universities have projects with Chinese partners. “Belarusian educational institutions run sinology institutes and classes named after Confucius. Centers for Belarusian Studies operate at Chinese universities. The establishment of the Association of Universities of Belarus and China was very opportune. Our country hosted a delegation of rectors of leading Chinese universities. The delegation was headed by the secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University and was received by the president of the Republic of Belarus,” the diplomat added.
“Belarusian and Chinese universities launch new educational projects and programs and scale up existing ones, expand internship opportunities for students and researchers, create joint research laboratories and implement projects in science and engineering,” noted Sergei Lukashevich.
