Lukashenko invited to visit Russia’s Sakhalin

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) - Governor of Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast Valery Limarenko invited Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to visit Sakhalin during his meeting with the Belarusian leader in Minsk on 28 October. The head of the Russian region told the media about it after his meeting with the head of state, BelTA has learned.

According to Valeri Limarenko, he invited Aleksandr Lukashenko to visit Sakhalin: “I said to him that he would come to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and see it is as clean there as in Minsk, and the same transport is used there as in Minsk. The region buys a lot of Belarusian-made machinery. “Over the past nine years, we have purchased 900 units of farming vehicles, haul trucks, and buses,” the governor explained. Now the region plans to fully transfer municipal, agricultural, passenger vehicles to low-carbon fuel (gas). Here they count on partnership with the Belarusian enterprises BelAZ and Amkodor.”

As BelTA reported earlier, Aleksandr Lukashenko has stated his desire to visit Sakhalin more than once.

In September 2020, at a meeting with Governor of Russia’s Primorye Territory Oleg Kozhemyako, the head of state said that he would definitely plan such a trip: “Lake Baikal, Altai, Primorye, Sakhalin and Kamchatka. After all, it is worth visiting this miracle of nature.

The president visited Primorye Territory in the spring of 2022. Back then, talking to the media in Vladivostok, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that he dreamt of visiting Sakhalin. “My dream was to visit Sakhalin when Oleg Nikolayevich [Kozhemyako, Governor of Primorye Territory, former head of  Russia's Sakhalin Oblast and Amur Oblast] headed the region. I guess we will visit the place someday and you will remember your past,” the head of state said addressing the head of the region.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also paid a visit to Baikal. During his visit to Irkutsk Oblast in June 2024, the president got familiar with local attractions and took a boat trip along the Circum-Baikal railway.
