Lukashenko about investigation of 2008 terrorist attack: 'No one will be allowed to airbrush or hide truth!'

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) -  The documentary series  Time Chose Us on the Belarus 1 TV channel addressed the terrorist attack that took place during the Independence Day celebrations in Minsk in 2008, BelTA learned.

In 2008, on the Independence Day of Belarus, an explosion occurred at the Minsk Hero City monument at 1.30 in the morning.

“I was at this event. An explosion happened when Gazmanov's song was playing. At first I thought that it was probably some kind of fireworks. But then the blast went off. A few seconds later I heard ambulance sirens in the distance and understood that, unfortunately, a tragedy happened,” said Dmitry Pinevich, chairman of the Health Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee (2002-2011).

An improvised explosive device went off in the crowd. There was a huge number of people at the holiday concert. The head of state, who attended the concert, was at the scene a few minutes later. Aleksandr Lukashenko took the situation under his personal control.

Dmitry Pinevich recalled that not only medical workers, but also law enforcers, who were on duty at the concert, helped the injured. About 50 people were injured. Later it turned out that shortly before the explosion, law enforcement officers found another device, which, fortunately, did not work. A criminal case was opened into the terrorist attack.

A few days after the explosion, the president held a closed-door meeting with the heads of security agencies. “No one (no power structure or authority) will be allowed to airbrush or hide the truth about the things that lie behind the direct perception of these events by ordinary citizens. What we see externally is one thing. But today I will be interested in things that go way deeper ,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized at the meeting.
