MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – The Consulate General of Lithuania in Grodno plans to move to a new building by the end of June, Consul General of Lithuania in Grodno Jolanta Tubaite said at a meeting with Chairman of Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Kravtsov, BelTA has learned.
The consulate will be located in the historical part of the city. The site for construction has been alloted in Vasilka street. “I hope the new building will beautify the city. The necessary approvals and procedures for the purchase of equipment are underway,” said Jolanta Tubaite.
The parties expressed hope that with the opening of the new building the interaction between Belarus and Lithuania and the regions will develop even more actively. “Moreover, almost all sectors have positive examples,” said Vladimir Kravtsov. “There are more than 120 organizations with the Lithuanian capital in the region, major investment projects are being carried out.”
Collaboration in transport and logistics was also discussed. For example, the reconstruction of the Kamenny Log checkpoint on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border will be launched this year. The traffic flow is increasing from year to year here. The M7 Highway from the checkpoint towards Minsk will also be reconstructed. The issue of restoring the railway service from Grodno to Lithuania was also raised during the meeting.
The parties have common interests in tourism, in particular in promoting and more actively using the potential of the Neman River and the Augustow Canal. Grodno Oblast has become a popular destination for Lithuanian tourists. The region welcomed more than 130,000 tourists without a visa in 2019, the majority of them were guests from Lithuania. Currently, visa-free tourists have the opportunity to travel on group tours throughout the entire region.
Consideration was also given to the cooperation in education and culture.
