MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – By hosting the Marathon of Unity, we seek to highlight the bonds and values that keep our society together and helped us build a truly independent state, Chairman of the Lida District Executive Committee Aleksandr Versotsky told the media, BelTA has learned.
"Like all other cities of Belarus, Lida welcomes the Marathon of Unity with open arms. We are very grateful that our city was chosen as one of the venues for the marathon in Grodno Oblast. There are a lot of cities worthy of it. We are thankful to the organizers who made this decision," Aleksandr Versotsky said.
He stressed that the exhibition at the local art school demonstrates the attention that Belarus pays to unlocking the potential of children.
"I will take part in one of the projects of the Marathon of Unity, Not Boring Not Lecture. For me it is not a common meeting with young people. The society can now see why we decided to preserve a vocational education system. Nowadays we do not have the blue-collar workforce shortage as other post-Soviet states do," Aleksandr Versotsky said.
The city of Lida will be hosting the nationwide social and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity on 10-11 January. The campaign has already taken place in Molodechno, Gomel, Zhlobin, Mogilev, Bobruisk, Orsha, Vitebsk, Pinsk, Baranovichi, Brest, Mozyr, Soligorsk. Lida is the first city of Grodno Oblast which hosts the Marathon of Unity.

He pointed out the symbolism of the venues for events of the Marathon of Unity in Lida: "Take for instance the ice palace. For me, as the chairman of the executive committee and a resident of the city, this place is important. It was built in the period of sovereignty and independence, in the period of modern history of our country. Or, for example, the Konus plant. For me it is a showcase of most favorable conditions for such import-substituting projects in our country,” Aleksandr Versotsky stated.
