Legislative bodies of Minsk, Krasnoyarsk sign cooperation agreement

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The Minsk City Council of Deputies and the Krasnoyarsk City Council of Deputies signed an agreement to promote cooperation in youth policy, to facilitate experience exchange and cultural ties, BelTA learned.

According to Artem Tsuran, chairman of the Minsk City Council of Deputies, the main purpose of the agreement is to deepen ties at the level of parliamentary commissions and youth associations. “Minsk and Krasnoyarsk have signed agreements on cooperation in social and economic affairs. At the level of the city councils we primarily aim to promote people's diplomacy - exchange of visits between relevant commissions because they have similar powers. Krasnoyarsk's experience in working with people and public self-government is interesting to us," Artem Tsuran said.

Special attention will be paid to joint projects of youth chambers under the councils. "We have plans for the cooperation of the youth chambers. We are also eager to promote interaction between youth associations. We will also tap into cultural exchange: Krasnoyarsk teams have already successfully performed in Minsk, and we intend to take these ties further," he noted.

The term of validity of the agreement between the city councils of deputies is indefinite, and specific activities will be described in the roadmaps. “If we deem it necessary to step up work in certain area, we will draw up a relevant action plan,” Artem Tsuran explained.

This year the parties are planning a forum of youth councils in Minsk and also new cultural exchanges. "We suggest the forum involves delegations of partner cities. Perhaps we will organize it by the Minsk City Day or even earlier," he added.

The Minsk City Council of Deputies already has signed the agreements with Moscow and St. Petersburg and plans to sign similar documents with Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Kazan. "This cooperation is promising. Thus the deputy corps can cultivate closer ties at the grassroots level," Artem Tsuran added.
