Lebedev's term as CIS secretary general extended for another three years

DUSHANBE, 10 October (BelTA) - Sergei Lebedev has been appointed as the CIS Secretary General for the next three years. The corresponding decision was made at the CIS Heads of State Council in Tajikistan on 10 October, BelTA has learned.

“By the decision of the Heads of State Council, I have been appointed CIS Secretary General for a new three-year term,” Sergei Lebedev stated at a expanded-format meeting. “I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the high trust placed in me and I pledge to continue working for the preservation and strengthening of relations of friendship and good-neighborliness between our countries and peoples.”

Sergei Lebedev's tenure as head of the CIS Executive Committee (the position was renamed to Secretary General in 2023) was previously extended in 2012, 2016, 2017, and 2019. On 14 October 2022 in Astana, the CIS leaders extended his term for another three years – until 31 December 2025.
