Lebedev to lead CIS observer mission at early presidential election in Azerbaijan

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) - The CIS observer mission at the early presidential election in the Republic of Azerbaijan will be headed by CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev. His candidacy was approved by the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives to the CIS statutory and other bodies, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The early presidential election in the Republic of Azerbaijan will be held on 7 February 2024. The CIS will deploy its observer mission at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The CIS Executive Committee sent out invitations to the CIS countries with a request to send their representatives to the mission.

As during previous election campaigns, the CIS mission will be guided by the principles of political neutrality, non-interference in the electoral process and in the internal affairs of the state, strictly in accordance with national legislation.
