MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – The national social and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity is taking place in Minsk. Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev unveiled details of the marathon and emphasized the importance of unity for Belarus, BelTA has learned.
“The Marathon of Unity continues. Today it has come to Minsk. Minsk residents are very happy to see all the participants. And it is very nice that all the people thoroughly prepared for the Marathon of Unity in Minsk. Enterprises, organizations, artists, educational institutions have put forward a great number of proposals to highlight and celebrate our unity,” the mayor emphasized.
Vladimir Kukharev noted that unity is crucial for peace and prosperity. “Today, we see that the world is in turmoil, many parts of the planet are ravaged by conflicts on interethnic and religious grounds. It is very important to prevent this from happening in Minsk. Belarusians have been able to preserve their culture, language, national identity and mentality against all the odds over the course of their thousand-year history,” he said.
The mayor emphasized that Belarusians want to pass on their traditions to future generations. “Today, as a sovereign state, we are doing everything to pass on to future generations everything that was built by our ancestors. When a nation stands united, they can make their country strong and prosperous,” said Vladimir Kukharev.
He noted that people from all walks of life took part in the preparations for the marathon. “We have received a lot of valuable input. It is gratifying that many children's organizations, creative teams, and youth organizations are taking part in this campaign. Particular attention is paid to drawing and essay competitions. Works of art will be presented at an exhibition in the Minsk Arena. Teachers say that the essays are profound, despite the young age of the authors,” said Vladimir Kukharev.
The Marathon of Unity in Minsk will be held on more than 70 venues. It will include 15 exhibitions of Belarus' achievements over the past three decades. “The attitude of creative teams is very important. People's artists share their experience with younger colleagues. Six such master classes are to be held in the city. Particular attention is paid to youth initiatives. Interesting murals are being created, despite the winter. The youth considered it incumbent on themselves to do it. The Stolitsa Mall will also host events for young people. Not-boring not-lectures are organized for college students. Professional and amateur artists will take part in the concert Minsk United,” Vladimir Kukharev emphasized.
He noted that each venue will become a center of attraction and unification of people. “This is a powerful push to make our country strong, prosperous and happy,” the Minsk mayor concluded.
