Krutoi highlights importance of Belarus' heritage amid surge of domestic tourism

VOLOZHIN, 19 October (BelTA) – It is important to preserve the country's historical and cultural heritage amid the increasing popularity of domestic tourism in Belarus, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi told BelTA at the regional stage of the harvest festival Dazhynki 2024 in Volozhin, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Krutoi noted that over the past two years, domestic tourism has grown by 20% to 30%. This suggests that people are showing increasing interest in exploring their country. Local tourism can take advantage of this trend and benefit greatly from it. As part of the Dazhynki 2024 festival, large-scale work is being carried out in the regions to spruce up small and medium-sized towns and to restore cultural and historical sites.

Particular attention is paid to Volozhin. This town has been at the crossroads of cultures and traditions for centuries. According to Dmitry Krutoi, one of the key projects here will be the opening of the Volozhin Yeshiva. This is a religious educational institution where outstanding figures from all over the world studied the Torah and Talmud, including government and cultural figures from Jerusalem and the United States. He emphasized that the Volozhin Yeshiva is just one of many historical sites that require restoration. “We are going back 140 years, collecting bits of history to restore the scale of these sites, which are important not only for Belarus, but for the whole world,” Dmitry Krutoi noted.

The head of the Belarus President Administration highlighted the diversity of religious culture in Volozhin, where Jewish, Catholic and Orthodox traditions peacefully coexist. “Belarus is a multi-faith country. Modern technologies and advanced solutions will be used during the  the reconstruction to make the sites interesting for people of all ages,” he said.

Dmitry Krutoi expressed confidence that such large-scale projects undertaken within the framework of national festivals will help many residents of the country to look at Volozhin in a new way. “I am sure that many residents of the republic today have looked at Volozhin from a new perspective, and God willing, the number of tourists to this wonderful town will increase,” added Dmitry Krutoi.
