Kremlin spokesman: Zelensky's position on forcing Russia into peace is a fatal mistake

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – Vladimir Zelensky's position on forcing Russia into peace and his unwillingness to make agreements are a fatal mistake, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media, TASS reports.

"The idea of forcing Russia into peace is an absolutely fatal mistake. It’s impossible 'to force Russia into peace.' Russia is all for peace, provided that its basic security is guaranteed and the special military operation’s goals are achieved. It’s impossible to force Russia into anything until these goals are achieved," he said.

Dmitry Peskov emphasized that such a position is "deeply delusional, and will certainly have consequences for the Kiev regime."

The spokesman also touched upon the possibility of talks on strategic stability between Russia and the United States. According to him, the talks should be held as soon as possible, because Russia and the U.S. are largely responsible for strategic stability.

"It is impossible to discuss strategic security without taking the new aspects into account or considering the entire body of aspects, including Europe’s nuclear potential. All this should be considered together. We have not received a response from the Americans yet," he added.

Earlier, National Security Council Communications Advisor John Kirby said the United States was ready to resume negotiations on New START Treaty.

In February 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia was suspending its participation in New START but not withdrawing from the agreement.
