Kochanova: West’s attempts to denigrate feat of Soviet soldiers are futile
MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) - Attempts by the West to denigrate the feat of the Soviet soldiers are futile, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she laid flowers and wreaths at the Victory Monument in Minsk, BelTA learned.
“Their attempts are futile. How can it be otherwise when those people are alive, when we are alive - those who have heard many stories of veterans. In our school we had teachers who were war veterans, who went through the war. Our relatives and friends fought on the battlefields. My mother's uncle went through the war, has five orders of the Red Banner. These are honored people. They will not succeed in the attempts. They will never be able to take away this truth and memory from us? Never,” Natalya Kochanova said.
“Only those people who remember their history and sacredly honor all that was achieved before them by older generations - will live happily,” the speaker noted. “Most importantly, people should live in harmony with themselves. It is scary when people betray the memory,” she noted. “So all these attempts are pointless. But, of course, we should not be complacent. We realize that these attempts will continue. It is not for nothing that we have adopted the law on the inadmissibility of the rehabilitation of Nazism, the Belarusian genocide recognition law. We have written in the Constitution that it is the sacred duty of everyone to keep the memory and the truth about that war”.
