MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobyov had a working meeting, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of Belarusian Parliament.
These days, a delegation of the Federation Council headed by Yuri Vorobyov is paying a working visit to Vitebsk, Polotsk, and Novopolotsk. The goal is to participate in a joint meeting of the Belarusian and Russian organizing committees for the 11th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, and to assess the readiness of the venues for the forum.
The day before, the delegation toured Vitebsk Vostochny Airport, Vitebsk Carpets company, the Summer Amphitheater, Victory Square, and the Vitebsk Concert Hall that will host the key event of the 11th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia - the plenary session. In addition, the participants of the organizing committee got acquainted with the readiness of the venues of the sections. The joint meeting of the Belarusian and Russian organizing committees considered the conceptual issues of organizing and conduct of the Forum of Regions, including the preparation of meetings of nine sections; meetings of Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko with the heads of government bodies of the Belarusian regions and constituent entities of the Russian Federation; the signing of cooperation agreements and other documents, and the cultural program.
On 7 June the Belarusian and Russian MPs visited Polotsk and Novopolotsk to inspect the facilities that will host the events of the 11th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. Representatives of the upper chambers of the parliaments of Belarus and Russia inspected the progress in the infrastructure reconstruction effort and visited several sites, including the former House of Officers, the Cadet School, St. Sophia Cathedral, the Savior and St. Euphrosyne Convent, Polymir plant of Naftan oil refinery and other sites that will host the discussion panels during the forum.
Natalya Kochanova and Yuri Vorobyov compared noted on the key issues of organizing the large-scale event of the Union State and discussed further prospects of Belarusian-Russian interparliamentary cooperation.
Yuri Vorobyov praised the progress in the preparations for the Forum of Regions.
