Kochanova: Union of Belarus and Russia has passed the test of time

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The union of Belarus and Russia has passed the test of time, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said at the plenary session to discuss science and technology cooperation between Russia and Belarus in the era of digitalization as part of the 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

“Our union has passed the test of time. The latest events around Belarus and Russia show that the decisions made many years ago were absolutely right and that it is important to stick together. The Forum of Regions is a bright example of the unity and cohesion of the peoples of the two countries in the face of objective challenges and artificially created problems, attempts to divide and weaken us. I am sure that these attempts will stand no chance against the strength of our relationship. Together we will ensure peace, calm and prosperity in our homes,” Natalya Kochanova said.

According to her, the ability to listen to and understand each other is crucial for any relationship. And the main mission of the forum is to facilitate a continuous interregional dialogue.

“Each forum makes an invaluable contribution to good-neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation. I am sure that the ongoing forum will give a new impetus to Belarus-Russia integration, including in science and technology. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I would like to invite our Russian counterparts to attend the 9th Forum of Regions to be held in Grodno. This is one of Belarus' oldest and most beautiful cities known for its rich and glorious history,” the speaker noted.

The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is held under the auspices of the upper chambers of the parliaments of the two countries - the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia. The 8th edition of the forum kicked off on 29 June and is running through 1 July. Its main events are held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The participants of the forum discuss science and technology cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the digitalization era and the development of the common scientific and technological space in the Union State.

Speaking at the plenary session are heads of government bodies, ministries and departments, representatives of business communities of the two countries, and also digitalization experts.
