Kochanova: UN should make fair decisions for the benefit of its member states

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) - The UN should make fair decisions for the benefit of its member states, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov, BelTA has learned.

“I offer my sincere congratulations on your appointment to such a high position. With your arrival, I hope we will have a fruitful cooperation aimed at fair treatment of our country. We are the founding country of the UN, and we cherish it very much. This organization was set up with the expectation that it would really be a solution to the issues that concern each of the member countries. The issues that this organization deals with are very important, especially in today's world. These are the Sustainable Development Goals, the protection of children's rights, gender policy, sovereignty and independence of countries. Unfortunately, recently there has been a lot of criticism heard in respect to this organization,” Natalya Kochanova said.

Cooperation with the United Nations is the most important vector of the Belarusian foreign policy. Our country was among the founding members of the United Nations and has taken an active position in the Organization from the very first days of its membership. During its independence, Belarus has introduced a number of important initiatives at the UN, which have strengthened the positive image of the country in the international arena.

“I think that when you see how we live and develop, what our country, the authorities of the country, public organizations do, you will, of course, give an objective assessment of the ongoing processes,” Natalya Kochanova stressed. “We will always support the activities of the UN. It is important for this organization to make fair decisions, which will be aimed at the benefit of its member states.”
