Kochanova, Matviyenko to open plenary session of Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – The plenary session of the 7th edition of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be opened by Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus' National Assembly Natalya Kochanova and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia's Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

The plenary session will be the main event of the forum. This year the countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, so the session will be dedicated to the topic “Historical heritage of the Great Patriotic War as the basis for the development of social, economic, and spiritual ties between Belarus and Russia”.

Plans are in place to sign cooperation agreements between regions of the two countries, business contracts, and other partnership agreements at the 7th Forum of Regions. The forum will be divided into five sections dedicated to different themes: the role of the parliament in preserving the historical heritage and strengthening the unity between the two brotherly nations; joint projects as a factor of stable economic development of Belarus and Russia; the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War as the basis for fostering patriotism and civil responsibility; creating conditions for improving social and economic activity of the rural youth in the implementation of SDGs in Belarusian and Russian regions; stepping up joint Belarus-Russia efforts in countering the glorification of Nazism within international organizations. The forum will also feature a meeting between Natalya Kochanova, Valentina Matviyenko, and heads of Belarusian regions and Russian federal subjects.

The program of the forum will also include the 7th session of the interparliamentary commission on regional cooperation of the Council of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation Council of Russia, a joint meeting of the two councils, and a session of high-level experts under the title “Education as the basis for preservation of the common historical memory and further integration and development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia”.

The 7th edition of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be held in Minsk and Minsk Oblast on 28-29 September. The forum is organized by the Council of the Republic of Belarus' National Assembly and the Federation Council of Russia's Federal Assembly.
