MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Thirty years ago Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko pulled the country away from the brink of an abyss, Chair of the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of Belarus’ parliament, Natalya Kochanova said as she met with First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu in Minsk on 10 July, BelTA has learned.
“Today we mark the 30th anniversary of the institution of presidency in our country,” noted Natalya Kochanova. “Thirty years ago we were plagued by chaos and gang violence. The Soviet Union collapsed leaving us in ruins. Yet, our country was lucky, we got a man who pulled the country away from the brink of an abyss. We are lucky to have such a national leader. Today we know this for sure, because in a short period - just over 30 years – our country has turned into a highly developed state with remarkable human potential,” she said.
The president of Belarus cares a lot about the problems of the country and people, the speaker emphasized. “I would like to sincerely wish the president of Nigeria to be able to withstand all the problems that have befallen him. Of course, this is not easy. But you should know that you have good friends in Belarus. I know for sure that Aleksandr Grigorievich is ready to offer advice and help anytime as he is committed to maintaining good relations between our countries. The things that we have in common include commitment to peace, patriotic education programs for young people, and support of families raising children. Thus, healthcare, education and culture are a priority of our state policies,” added Natalya Kochanova.
