Kochanova highlights importance of national memory for Belarusians

LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) – For Belarusians, memory is sacred, it is the pillar of our patriotism and love for our homeland, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said at a ceremony in the Khatyn memorial complex to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the tragedy of the Belarusian village, BelTA learned.

“In our country, memory is sacred. And we pass it on from generation to generation. Because for us it is the pillar of our patriotism and love for our homeland,” Natalya Kochanova said.
The Great Patriotic War affected every family. “There is no family in Belarus that has not been affected by that tragedy. How can one forget?” the speaker said.

Wars came to our land not through our fault, Natalya Kochanova emphasized. “This is a terrible tragedy. People understand it and appreciate peace. The most important thing for a person is peace, the opportunity to live, to create families, to give birth to children and not to be afraid for their future. Not to be afraid of a terrible tragedy similar to the one that happened 82 years ago here, on this place, which is holy for us. There are a lot of such places in Belarus. As President Aleksandr Lukashenko said Belarus is a living monument to that war. We should appreciate that we live in a peaceful country,” the speaker added.
