Kochanova highlights importance of journalists' work in shaping up Belarus’ future

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – It is a really challenging time, and journalists are important for shaping up the country’s future, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said at a solemn event on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Belarus Office of the Mir Interstate Television and Radio Company on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

“I have been to all the leading TV channels and media holdings, but this is the first time I have visited you. Therefore, when I learned that your organization is celebrating its 30th anniversary, I decided to come and see how you work,” Natalya Kochanova said.

According to her, the Council of the Republic and Mir TV channel have warm relations. “I am sincerely grateful for what you are doing. It is a huge and necessary work for Belarus and all CIS member states, because you tell the truth about what is going on in our countries. It is not fake news but the truth about politics, economy, and ordinary people's lives. This is very important for us, because we work together with our counterparts from the CIS in many integration associations. The coverage of our work, among other things, is realized through your programs and reports,” she emphasized.

“Please, accept my sincere gratitude. I know firsthand how the head of state treats media workers and how much attention he pays to this area,” Natalya Kochanova pointed out. “It is a really challenging time. The information space is being flooded with fakes now. Your work is important for shaping up the country's future. In 2020, it was the media that came under attack first. Therefore, do your best to help us keep Belarus sovereign and independent. Tell the truth about our life and our country.”
