Kochanova: Forum of regions can give new momentum to Belarus-China cooperation

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – The Forum of Regions of Belarus and China can give a new impetus to cooperation between our countries, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan in Minsk on 18 October, BelTA has learned.

"The Council of the Republic is a body of territorial representation. We are sincerely happy when the regions of our countries establish good relations. By the way, we talked about this at the meetings that we held in China [during the visit of the parliamentary delegation of Belarus to the PRC]. Back then we also discussed regional cooperation between our administrative-territorial structures," Natalya Kochanova said. "We see that the contacts between our countries have been gaining momentum. Chairmen of the district and city authorities, regional administrations from all regions of our country frequently visit the People's Republic of China. We are happy to host our friends from China and welcome this cooperation between the regions, as we call it people's diplomacy. Because some issues can be solved at local level, between enterprises, associations, and local authorities.”
The speaker is sure that the Forum of Regions of Belarus and China can be a good impetus for intensifying bilateral cooperation. "A proposal to hold a forum of regions came from the president, and we supported it enthusiastically. For 11 years in a row, we have been holding the Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia: alternately in each of the countries. It would be good if we could put together such an event with the People's Republic of China that looks into the most pressing issues of cooperation in industry, agriculture, humanitarian matters, education, healthcare and so on and that displays goods and services. This will benefit cooperation and drive it forward in absolutely all areas,” the speaker noted.
