MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – The epidemiological situation in Belarus is under control and there is no need to put companies on a pause, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova told the media on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
The speaker mentioned different proposals to shut down companies due to the global spread of the coronavirus infection. Natalya Kochanova stressed that there are no grounds for such measures. “We understand perfectly well that the epidemic will be over sooner or later. What will the country be left with? We do not have such a situation when it is necessary to close enterprises. The economy is a priority, the operation of enterprises and the fulfillment of the tasks we are facing,” she said.
The Council of the Republic is currently considering the government's proposals for the country's social and economic development within the next five years, and monitoring the current situation in the regions and at enterprises. “It is very important to ensure equal development of regions, the operation of each enterprise. There will be absolutely nothing without the economy. The tasks set by the head of state on employment, prices, and wages will always be a priority,” Natalya Kochanova said.
