MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusians should be united in their determination to preserve their country, traditions and mentality, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova said in an interview with the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, BelTA informs.
“The Year of People's Unity will end in 2021, but its idea will live further. Although 2022 will highlight a different theme, I believe that national unity will dominate the agenda. After all, this is exactly what we should always have and what helps us survive in any situation. Our head of state has repeatedly emphasized that national unity is a linchpin of every nation as it helps a nation live through any misfortunes,” Natalya Kochanova said.
The speaker noted that this year Belarusians had to live and work in very difficult conditions. “The challenges for our economic growth included global instability, incessant attempts to isolate Belarus politically and economically. All this prompted us to revise our attitude to many things. We saw who is who. We learned what countries are stubbornly unwilling to embark on a constructive dialogue with us, as they have their own geopolitical plans where a self-sufficient Belarus does not fit in any way. At the same time we saw once again that we are not alone in this world, that there are those who share our views and values, defend decency and integrity in relations, act in the interests of their peoples, strive for a harmonious and safe world. We looked at each other and saw that the overwhelming majority of our citizens had a sound assessment of the situation around our country. We realized that our political course was right and felt overwhelming gratitude to the national leader - our president - for the country that we built under his leadership and the country that we were able to preserve thanks to his political will, wisdom and foresight,” she stressed
Natalya Kochanova emphasized that there is not a slightest doubt that Belarusians should stand united in order to preserve their sovereignty. “This is not about monolithic like-mindedness. We should be united in our determination to preserve our country, our traditions and mentality and live in accordance with them. This is what defines us as a people, as a nation,” she stated.
The speaker noted that today the falsification and distortion of history in the interests of individual states or groups of influence turned into an information weapon of hybrid wars. “In fact, the emerging virtual history of human development has no place for historical truth. The most dangerous thing is the desire to manipulate the public sentiment, change the historical code of a number of states, including our country. Therefore, it is very important today to be pro-active in protecting the historical heritage - not to hush up certain facts of Belarusian history, but to protect our history from manipulation and the historical truth from distortion. This is our only way to resist attempts to split our nation and preserve the sovereignty of our state. I am convinced that Belarus should remain the historical homeland for all Belarusians of the world,” Natalya Kochanova noted.
