MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova has met with Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives (Parliament) Puan Maharani on the sidelines of the Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Baku, BelTA has learned.
“We view Indonesia as a good friend and partner in Southeast Asia. I am sure that we will write a new chapter in the history of our inter-parliamentary cooperation. We have a lot in common, which will facilitate our cooperation for the benefit of our countries and peoples,” Natalya Kochanova said.
According to the speaker, inter-parliamentary cooperation is advancing to a new level. “It is very important to meet at such international platforms to discuss global problems facing many countries of the world. We, parliamentarians, can do a lot to promote and defend our principles - non-interference in internal affairs, ensuring peace and harmony. All of this has been mentioned in the speeches of all the speakers today. We sincerely thank everyone who supported our country's bid to become an observer in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly,” the chairperson of the Council of the Republic remarked.
“We would very much like to closely interact in humanitarian matters, education, healthcare, culture. We have made great strides in healthcare, in the pharmaceutical industry. We are ready to cooperate in absolutely all areas. I would like to invite you to pay an official visit to Belarus to see this for yourself,” added Natalya Kochanova.
The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova arrived in Azerbaijan on an official visit. The program of the visit includes participation in a session of the Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
The APA was established in 2006 to coordinate the efforts of national parliaments to address pressing problems, including by increasing the parliamentary role in ensuring peace in Asia. The Assembly acts as one of the instruments of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the region, its activities are aimed at developing a collective strategy for ensuring security and stability in Asia.
