MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Serbia will continue to strengthen cooperation, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to Belarus Ilina Vukajlović in Minsk on 25 October, BelTA has learned.
"I would like to congratulate all Serbian citizens on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from the Nazi invaders. Unlike many European countries that are trying to rewrite history and come up with completely unthinkable facts, Belarus and Serbia are trying to preserve the historical memory. Our history and historical roots are at the heart of friendly relations between our states," Natalya Kochanova noted.
In November, Belarus and Serbia will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. "As our president said when speaking in the National Assembly of Serbia in 2019, the most important achievement of Belarus and Serbia is the opportunity to live on their own land. That is true. Sovereignty and independence are important for any nation and state," the speaker stated.
"In 1999, the Belarusian leader visited this country in the tragic days for Yugoslavia thus showing his deep regard for Serbia. During the years of our friendship, we have always worked to take our cooperation further and will continue to do so. I understand how difficult it is now, especially for European countries, when the collective West is imposing sanctions against individual states. Therefore, our task is to do our utmost to enhance good and friendly relations between Belarus and Serbia and develop cooperation in all areas: economy, humanitarian matters," Natalya Kochanova added.
