MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) - Belarusian-Russian relations have reached an unprecedented level, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said at the closing of the eighth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation on 30 June, BelTA has learned.
“Under the current circumstances, the priority of our country's international cooperation on a bilateral track is the interaction with our strategic ally – the Russian Federation. It is obvious that Belarusian-Russian relations have reached an unprecedented level. In many respects this is the result of the serious work that has been carried out at all levels over the past 30 years. In addition, the situation around our countries pushes us towards further rapprochement,” Natalya Kochanova said.
The basic condition for the successful implementation of joint projects in economy, including import substitution and gradual increase in industrial cooperation, social, humanitarian and other sectors, is the harmonization and unification of the legislations of Belarus and Russia, the speaker said.
"MPs should contribute to accelerating the effort to implement the main guidelines to the Union State Treaty in 2021-2023 and 28 Union State programs. These documents are a strategic algorithm of our interaction and need to be fulfilled promptly,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized. “In furtherance of them we need to adopt more than four hundred acts and bilateral agreements. Particular attention should also be paid to model lawmaking to harmonize national legislation and law enforcement practice. It is important to exercise parliamentary control over the implementation of the Union State programs and to fine-tune coordination of the joint work of the Union State agencies and national bodies on the convergence of national legislations. Yet, it is important to remember that giving up on the national legal traditions is not the goal of rapprochement."
