Kochanova: Belarus, Pakistan have built solid inter-parliamentary contacts

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) - Belarus and Pakistan have established solid inter-parliamentary contacts, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said during a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on 11 April, BelTA learned.

"The parliaments of Belarus and Pakistan enjoy good relations. Just a few days ago, on the sidelines of the 150th IPU Assembly, I met with my colleague, the speaker of the Senate of Pakistan. We agreed that we should cooperate closely. For that, of course, we need to exchange visits," Natalya Kochanova said.

She emphasized that the Belarusian Parliament has a working group on cooperation with Pakistan’s Parliament. "Certainly, we, the parliamentarians, will do our best to ensure the implementation of the agreements reached by you and our president," Natalya Kochanova stated.
Natalya Kochanova emphasized that there are already a lot of agreements in force between the two countries, but it is important to implement the new ones.

According to the speaker, Aleksandr Lukashenko's visit to Pakistan in 2024 gave fresh impetus to bilateral cooperation.

"Our president has repeatedly stressed the excellent friendly relations between our countries. No topic is off-limits for us. We are happy to develop our trade, economic, humanitarian, and inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is very important for us," she said.

Natalya Kochanova also stressed the significance of regional cooperation. "We aim to make cooperation between the regions of our countries more effective," she stated, adding that all regions of Belarus have signed cooperation agreements with the provinces of Pakistan. However, she believes that this work needs to be intensified.
"The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a friendly country for us. We are sincerely happy that you and your colleagues are here with us today," the speaker remarked.

She also thanked her Pakistani colleagues for their support and joint work on international platforms and within international organizations. "We sincerely thank you for the support provided to our country. This is very important. We must work together within international organizations to promote policies of peace and good neighborliness," the speaker concluded.
