Kochanova: Belarus-Azerbaijan economic cooperation has great prospects

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan have everything in place to ramp up trade and economic cooperation, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, BelTA has learned.

According to the speaker, Belarus-Azerbaijan relations are not just trust-based and open, they are fraternal. “During his visit in May 2024 Aleksandr Grigorievich reiterated: we are brothers, friends and ironclad partners. This speaks volumes,” said Natalya Kochanova. “The goals of the domestic policy of Belarus and Azerbaijan, first of all, are prosperity and a good life for our people, the sovereignty and independence of our countries and the right to self-determination. The strategic tasks of our presidents in foreign policy are, first of all, peace and harmony. Thus, we absolutely share the principles that determine the development of our countries.”

“I am sincerely glad that our trade and economic cooperation is on the up and up, and I am absolutely sure that there is still room for growth. And, of course, I want to double down on what Aleksandr Grigorievich has mentioned earlier today: we are ready to help Azerbaijan in its rebuilding effort. We are able and willing to provide all kinds of assistance in these matters. We can also launch and grow joint ventures. We, parliamentarians, do not only pass laws, we also oversee the implementation of the agreements and arrangements reached by the leadership of our countries,” the speaker emphasized. “Maybe we have already come to the point where we can put together an inter-parliamentary commission of a higher level. We have recently formed a friendship group [in the parliament of the eighth convocation]. I believe that our cooperation will greatly benefit from another inter-parliamentary committee or commission of a higher level that would jointly oversee agreements and take action to fulfill the decisions of our leaders,” the speaker added.
