MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – A lot was done in Minsk in 2023 to meet the socio-economic development targets and it is necessary to maintain momentum in 2024, Chair of the Council of the Republic, the president’s authorized representative in Minsk Natalya Kochanova said at a meeting of the Minsk City Council. The participants of the meeting took stock of the socio-economic performance of Minsk in 2023 and set tasks for 2024, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Kochanova noted that a lot has been done in Minsk, although not all the tasks have been fulfilled in full. “You should keep in mind: no one will do your job instead of you. If we need to amend legislation, we should do it quickly,” the speaker said. “We were off to a good start last year. We should keep it up. Nothing will work out unless everyone takes their tasks seriously.”

The agenda of the meeting included digitalization. Every year the Minsk City Council allocates money for these purposes from its innovations fund, but the money is not utilized. Natalya Kochanova told the respective ministry to come to grips with the situation.

“The president made it clear: the performance of each executive will be assessed. If the tasks are fulfilled, they will retain their jobs, if not, someone more capable will pick up the slack,” the speaker noted.

Natalya Kochanova focused on such an important thing as timely payment of wages. “Wages and company performance are top on the agenda of the central and local authorities. The city took it up a notch and the results are not bad,” the speaker added.

Natalya Kochanova emphasized: the situation at all enterprises, regardless of the form of ownership, must be under control.

The chair of the Council of the Republic also urged to promote satellite towns. The capital city should stop absorbing the entire population of the country. Regional development is a priority.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the work of the construction sector, the transport industry, landscaping, outdoor advertising in the city, and efforts to improve the efficiency of individual enterprises and organizations.
