MOSCOW, 9 July (BelTA) - Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik presented the Order of Honor to First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergey Kiriyenko. The ceremony took place at the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Moscow on 9 July, BelTA learned.
In accordance with the decree of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Sergey Kiriyenko, among other Belarusian and Russian executives and specialists, has been honored for his services to the investment project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
At the ceremony, Sergey Kiriyenko expressed gratitude to the Belarusian president. “It is a great honor for me to receive the high order of the Republic of Belarus. I very much appreciate the trust of Aleksandr Lukashenko,” he said.
Sergey Kiriyenko recalled that the idea of building a nuclear power plant in Belarus was discussed in Soviet times. The project was implemented only thanks to the insistence of the Belarusian president and the firm position of the president of Russia.

Presenting the award, Ambassador Aleksandr Rogozhnik noted that Sergey Kiriyenko previously headed the Rosatom state corporation and actually stood at the origins of the negotiation process for the Belarusian NPP project. "This project was very important for our country, very high-tech," the ambassador said.
“The decision taken by the Belarusian president showed that over time our country has acquired not only a high-tech industry. It has acquired energy security. We are now part of the club of countries that use such a high-tech energy source. Sergey Kiriyenko’s contribution was appreciated by the president of our country,” Ambassador Aleksandr Rogozhnik noted.
“In the past Belarus consumed about 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. Today almost half of this volume was replaced. We no longer look for additional resources for its purchase. Today we have the safest, most environmentally friendly type of energy,” the ambassador added.
