MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The interaction between Belarus and Myanmar relies on trust, equality and mutual benefit, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said as he met with Chairman of the State Administrative Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry.

The Belarusian defense minister thanked Min Aung Hlaing for the invitation to visit Myanmar and conveyed congratulations from Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the 80th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

The defense minister of Belarus pointed out that long-standing friendship and mutual respect are the basis for successful cooperation between the countries, and expressed gratitude for the personal attention of the Myanmar head of state to bilateral cooperation, including in the defense field.

“Belarus has a high regard for Myanmar. Our interstate cooperation is based on trust, equality and mutual benefit. Belarus and Myanmar both strive for a multipolar system of international relations and pursue an independent foreign policy. Our countries consistently and persistently oppose interference in internal affairs of sovereign states and the use of illegal and unfair sanctions,” said Viktor Khrenin.

In turn, Min Aung Hlaing noted that the Republic of the Union of Myanmar welcomes Belarus’ determination to continue fruitful cooperation. “Our countries are far away from each other, but we are like-minded nations. I agree with your approach – a focus on quality, not quantity in cooperation. Therefore, we would like to start with an exchange of best practices in personnel training. We are interested in robust cooperation and vibrant trade. You have said that you are a trailblazer, and other officials will follow after you. We are open. I would like to convey to your president that we are very much looking forward to seeing him in our country. I hope that your visit will give new impetus to our cooperation. We are always ready to work with you,” he emphasized.
