MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The West cannot rest easy while Belarus remains a pocket of stability in Europe. Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Ivan Tertel made the statement as he met with workers of the Minsk-based tractor factory MTZ on 17 October, BelTA has learned. The meeting was organized to raise awareness about the evolving military political situation in the country and abroad.
Top officials of defense, security, and law enforcement agencies are meeting with worker collectives all over the country upon instructions of the head of state. The conversation took place at MTZ premises today.
Ivan Tertel said: “On Saturday our colleagues from the Internal Affairs Ministry apprehended several individuals, who had been preparing terrorist attacks at a number of facilities in Belarus. They had been instigated by [the informal organization] BYPOL, which is fully controlled by Polish services. We will act decisively. We are going to simply eliminate terrorists.”
In his words, all the Belarusians will have to work hard and relentlessly. “Because independence and peace exact a heavy price. The West is very impressed by the situation arising from the fact that Belarus is an island of stability. It is the only country that has managed to endure in these conditions, preserve allied relations with Russia, and prevent opportunities to turn the local situation upside down,” the KGB chief said. “I want all of us to understand that only we can decide our fate, the fate of our kids. Nobody will be able to simply crawl under a rock. Young Belarusians look up to me and you for an example to follow. You have to demonstrate your wisdom and standing in order to calm down the situation if need be.”
