GRODNO, 13 August (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Grodno Oblast Council of Deputies Yelena Pasyuta unveiled the agenda of the fourth Congress of Small Towns of Grodno Oblast and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast as she spoke to a BelTA journalist.

“A large delegation has arrived in Grodno Oblast, including in small districts that are part of the five-district partnership alliance for sustainable development. At the congress, the participants will exchange best practices in local governance, strengthen people’s diplomacy, and discuss cooperation between youth parliaments. Our youth association will also sign a roadmap for further development,” said Yelena Pasyuta.

According to the chairperson of the Grodno Oblast Council of Deputies, the delegation from Nizhny Novgorod showed particular interest in the agro-industrial sector. “An entire section of the forum is dedicated to the development of agriculture in Grodno Oblast, specifically crop and livestock production. The transfer of scientific knowledge and technologies is of mutual interest, and this topic will be the focus of discussions in Shchuchin District, where agricultural managers will share their best practices,” she added.

A dedicated segment of the program focuses on the youth policy of the Union State. The thematic session will take place in Volkovysk District and Svisloch District, where participants will visit historical landmarks, plant a memorial avenue, attend a requiem rally, and engage in extensive discussions.

“Today, it’s particularly important that our youth build strong friendships and that we nurture a new generation that will preserve our spiritual and moral traditions, historical legacy, and national values. This is the precious legacy we aim to pass on to continue strengthening our Union State,” emphasized Yelena Pasyuta.

Zelva District will serve as a platform for discussing and sharing best practices in inter-parliamentary and inter-regional cooperation. Meanwhile, Slonim District will host the “Economy: Industry and personnel policy” session.

Yelena Pasyuta noted that strong ties have been established between media organizations. The press tour organized prior to the event enabled visitors from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast to gain deeper insight into the area’s tourism potential, historical significance, and cultural heritage. She emphasized that the regional sustainable development experience has generated particular interest, especially regarding community engagement in civil initiatives. The chairperson of the Grodno Oblast Council of Deputies stressed that while Belarus and Russia share similar perspectives on objectives, their legislative frameworks employ different approaches.

The unifying theme of the congress will be the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. “This Victory belongs to us all. It serves as the main artery connecting our peoples. Today, young people are actively engaged in research work, participating in joint projects, and promoting the heroic deeds of Soviet Union Heroes who sacrificed their lives for peaceful skies,” emphasized Yelena Pasyuta.

The friendship between Grodno Oblast and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has endured for a quarter of a century. A renewed impetus for strengthening ties came three years ago with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Grodno Oblast Council of Deputies and the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
