Katyusha rocket launcher to be mounted by Mound of Glory near Minsk

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – The legendary rocket launcher Katyusha will be put on display at the exhibition of military machinery by the Mound of Glory near Minsk in May-June 2020, Artem Ignatenko, the head of the main culture and public activities department of the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, told journalists, BelTA has learned.

The rocket launcher has already been delivered to Minsk and renovated. It will be mounted on a star-shaped pedestal. The official unveiling ceremony of the new exhibit is scheduled for May-June. The specific date is yet unknown because the plans might change in view of the epidemiological situation.

The ceremony will include an annual art festival featuring works of war and labor veterans.

The nationwide campaign “The national chronicle of the Great Patriotic War: We remember everyone!” initiated by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) is also meant to preserve the historical truth. Belarusians are invited to send the institute the memoirs and photos of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War. The institute will analyze the materials and add them to the digital database.

The open-access digital database will provide information about the biography and awards of a requested person. First of all, the institute will digitize relevant documents from its archives.

Plans are also in place to publish a print version of the database. The first book of the national chronicles series is already in the works. Over a hundred Belarusians have already sent the NASB Institute of History their materials.
