MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – People in Belarus can freely express their views without fear, Oleg Gusev, journalist, public figure, member of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laureate of the International Peace and Human Rights Award 2024, said accepting the award at a ceremony on 11 November, BelTA has learned.
“Our opponents are trying to make us disappear. We see a struggle of civilizations in the world now. Some countries are trying to preserve their identity and independence, while others are promoting colonial ideas,” Oleg Gusev noted.
Belarus has managed to preserve its sovereignty and independence. Unlike many other countries, Belarus offers an open and accessible platform for communication, the expert emphasized. “We see many foreigners among the nominees. In Belarus, you can freely express your opinion without fear. Belarus is a model country in this regard,” he added.
The International Peace and Human Rights Award 2024 ceremony was held in Minsk on 11 November. The award was established by the Emil Czeczko International Charitable Foundation; the award ceremony is held annually. Laureates are awarded based on their contribution to defending human rights in the world, public recognition of their achievements in causes related to human rights, as well as the social significance of their work. The list of nominees is impressive and features journalists, activists, politicians and cultural figures whose work inspires millions.
