
MOSCOW, 10 January (BelTA) - The joint work of Belarus and Russia to set up common energy markets is important, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Dmitry Mezentsev said as he commented on the statement released by the Energy Ministries of the two countries that the draft agreement on the integrated electricity market of the Union State had passed internal approval procedures in Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
"The Energy Ministries of Belarus and Russia are engaged in the important work which will result in the formation of the common energy market with the possibility of trading in electricity and ensuring proper integration in the gas sector. This is a confirmation of the importance of the economic integration, the tasks of which were defined by the presidents of our countries, Vladimir Putin and Aleksandr Lukashenko, at the session of Supreme State Council of the Union State which approved 28 Union State programs as a large-scale, interconnected plan of joint actions," Dmitry Mezentsev noted.
He emphasized that the steps to advance the integration were spelled out in the draft main guidelines to the Union State Treaty for a new period, until 2026. According to Dmitry Mezentsev, the substantive discussion of this document took place at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State on 29 November 2023 that approved the corresponding draft decree of the Supreme State Council of Union State.
