Isachenko comments on his appointment as Mogilev Oblast Governor

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) - Anatoly Isachenko, who has been appointed Governor of Mogilev Oblast, told reporters how he sees his new position, BelTA has learned.

In his opinion, the attitude to public service should be akin to military service. "The key word is service. We are public servants. If there is an appointment, you do not think but go and do your best for the state. Public service means to serve the state, your homeland. This is how I perceive the new appointment," Anatoly Isachenko said.

"I know Mogilev Oblast quite well, I worked there for many years, I am familiar with the personnel, with the local mentality, approaches… I think this will prove useful in my work," he added.

Anatoly Isachenko assured that in his new position he would continue to be active on social networks, as he did as MP. This is his way, he said, to fight the shortcoming common for many government officials. "We work hard, but we don't talk much about it and show little. A lot of good things are really being done in the country. But we take it for granted to some extent. We need to show what we do and what we achieve," he stressed.

As an example, he cited Belarus' high results in the ranking for the Sustainable Development Goals: 24th place among 165 nations (Anatoly Isachenko was the SDG national coordinator). "This is an international assessment. Our results speak for themselves. We just need to show them," he said.
