MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is working to set up the Generation Connect – CIS Youth Group (GC-CIS), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry.
The CIS Youth Group will be set up within the framework of the global initiative Generation Connect that is part of the ITU Youth Strategy. The group will aim to narrow the digital divide in the CIS and will become a significant step in the implementation of the strategy.
Members of the CIS Youth Group will get familiar with the ITU activities globally and in the CIS and share their views on digital transformation prospects in the run-up to the 2021 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-21) and the CIS regional preparatory meeting that is due on 21-22 April. The GC-CIS will draw up a document that will be presented at the preparatory meeting. After that, the GC-CIS will participate in the organization of the youth summit scheduled for 6-7 November, ahead of the WTDC-21 that will take place in Ethiopia's Addis Ababa on 8-19 November.
So far, the CIS member states are putting up candidates for the membership of the CIS Youth Group. Eligible for participation are people aged 18-24 who have an interest or experience in digital technologies and digital transformation. Candidates should have good communication and analytical skills, be proficient in written speech, be ready to work in a team (including online), and have a good command of the English language.
Applications will close on 21 February. The lineup of the CIS Youth Group will be announced on 1 March and the first meeting of the group will take place on 4 March.
