MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – International observers who monitored the presidential election in Belarus told the STV TV channel how they assess the organizational level of the election, BelTA reports.
Before coming to Belarus, the observers read newspapers and Internet articles about the country, especially about the sanctions, said Maria Valeza, an international independent observer from the Philippines. “Naturally, we had a certain image of the country in our heads. But, having come here, we saw a completely different picture. Different in a good way. The mass media have freedom of speech. We talked to representatives of an election commission and were very surprised. Your election process is very simple and fairly fast. It differs from the election process in the Philippines. Everything is clear and voter-friendly here,” the observer said.
International observer from Israel Ilya Levin, in turn, noted that he took part in many election campaigns, and even headed some of them. “I haven't seen such calm and peaceful campaigns for a long time. I asked many questions [at polling stations], often tricky ones, I wanted to find fault with something, but I was surprised by how organized everything was. Everything was clear. I take my hat off to the organizers. I am ready to testify at any level that the election was transparent,” the observer said.
