MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The operating procedure of the information center of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus was approved at a meeting of the CEC on 20 November, BelTA has learned.
“The information center is designed to provide timely updates on the presidential election campaign. It will be working at the Palace of the Republic on 24-27 January,” said Deputy Head of the Department for Legal, Analytical and Methodological Work of the Office of Belarus’ CEC Ivan Tolkach.
“Representatives of duly registered national media organizations and foreign media accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be able to report from the center. In addition, foreign (international) observers accredited by the Central Election Commission, as well as representatives of the expert community, will also be able to work at the information center,” he said.
The information center will host press conferences, live broadcasts, briefings, and thematic events. “It will also distribute a great number of graphic and informational materials that will give visitors and journalists a primer on the election campaign,” Ivan Tolkach noted.
“This time the information center will be operational for four days. This year the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus is the chair of the CIS Advisory Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies and it was agreed at its last meeting that it would be appropriate to hold a meeting of this council during the election campaign, since the heads of these bodies will be visiting Belarus. Our Youth Council [an arm of the CEC] suggested holding events at the information center. Therefore, the center will remain open for an additional day - Friday, 24 January,” Ivan Tolkach added.
