MINSK, 31 December (BelTA) – Representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry have given an overview of the capabilities of the radar station that has been commissioned by the Belarusian army: an all-altitude target detector 96L6, BelTA has learned.
The all-altitude target detector is capable of detecting and tracking up to 100 targets simultaneously at a distance of up to 300km in addition to providing targeting data for the targets. The deployment of the new radar station for combat alert duty is part of the campaign to switch the air defense missile units of the Air Force and Air Defense Command to S-400 air defense missile systems.
Kirill Novopoltsev, commanding officer of an air defense missile regiment, noted: “Reconnaissance capabilities of our air defense missile regiment have been multiplied by several times. The personnel have completed a full training cycle starting with studying the hardware and the theory and ending with the basics of operating this system and are now ready to carry out missions. In comparison with its predecessors the new system is automated by virtually 100%. Our operators have been trained to use it in an automatic mode in addition to detecting targets on their own.”
The officer added that this radar station is capable of detecting targets at extremely low altitudes, including cruise missiles and aircraft-type UAVs as well as targets in the stratosphere. “Its capabilities allow continuously tracking targets throughout the entire detection zone. The data sharing process is fully automated. The station detects a target and immediately sends the data to the command post and from the command post the data is instantly transmitted to the anti-aircraft missile divisions. The sooner we detect the target, the more time we will have to make a decision and destroy it,” Kirill Novopoltsev emphasized.
