VITEBSK DISTRICT, 1 September (BelTA) - Vitebsk Oblast intends to rehabilitate 30 secondary education institutions using the loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in 2021-2022, Dmitry Khoma, head of the main education department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, told the media, BelTA has learned.
The IBRD has allocated €16.6 million to upgrade 30 facilities. More than €7.5 million has already been disbursed. "Today, upgrade efforts are over or still in progress at 27 educational institutions. The bank's program is designed to run in 2021-2025, but the bulk of the work will be completed this year. Three schools are slated for upgrade in 2022," Dmitry Khoma said.
A great amount of modernization and repair works has been implemented in Vitebsk Oblast ahead of the new school year. "This year, the school population in the region is 114,923 children, 1,000 more than last year. Of them 12,375 are first-graders," Dmitry Khoma added.
There are 321 secondary education institutions in Vitebsk Oblast. This year the region has purchased 33 new school buses for rural districts. The regional school bus fleet has been recently upgraded by almost 100% and now stands at 287.
