IBRD allocates €1.14m for repairing, modernizing two Belarusian schools

VITEBSK, 6 July (BelTA) – The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has allocated €1.14 million for major overhaul and modernization of village schools in Lepel District, Vitebsk Oblast, Deputy Chairman of the Lepel District Executive Committee Viktor Azarenok told BelTA.

The schools will once again welcome students on 1 September. As much as €645,000 has been allocated for repairing a secondary school in the village of Borovka. Its classrooms will be redecorated and a robot technology classroom will be set up. Considerable changes will happen to the gym: the gym and its toilets will be repaired and shower rooms will be built. All kinds of sports equipment will be bought for physical training classes.

The school's entrance and the lobby will be fitted with a lift for wheelchair users. Some of the school's electric wiring and fire alarm wiring will be replaced. The heating system will be fully replaced. New windows will be installed.

Vocational training classes will be renovated. The classroom intended for girls will be fitted with an electric cooking stove, a microwave oven, kitchen furniture, 12 universal sewing machines, an overlock sewing machine, tables for pattern cutting and ironing in addition to other things vocational training needs. The classrooms for boys will be fitted with a mechanic's workbench, a turner woodworking machine, a grinding machine, a tabletop drilling machine, metal shelves, and other things people need to work with metals and wood. Viktor Azarenok said that these classrooms can be used later on for training or for providing services to residents of the village and nearby communities. Wheelchair users will be able to attend robot technology classes and build robots there. The school will become a social, cultural, and sport center thanks to this.

The building's front will be redecorated. The surrounding area will be paved. Artificial turf will be laid down in the tennis court and on athletic tracks.

As for the secondary school in Zaslonovo, the scale of renovation will be smaller. As much as €495,000 has been allocated for repairing this school. Work is in progress in one of the old wings. Its roof will be replaced. Some of the intermediate floors will be replaced. The assembly hall will be repaired as well as classrooms. The building's exterior wall will be heat insulated. The school will become prettier on the outside, too once the surrounding area is beautified. The project for repairing and modernizing this school envisages redecoration in the second wing in the future.
