MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – The tricks the authorities used to prevent Aleksandr Lukashenko from winning the first presidential election in Belarus were revealed in the film “Time chose us” aired by the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
When candidate Aleksandr Lukashenko started gaining popularity ahead of the first presidential election, the then authorities considered him a serious competitor. That was the time when the problems for Aleksandr Lukashenko and his team began.

The opponents of the young candidate used various tricks. For example, they spread unpleasant rumors that had nothing to do with reality. Later the authorities started using the administrative resources to put pressure on Aleksandr Lukashenko. They even resorted to absurd methods in the fight against the inconvenient candidate.

"They sent hypnotists and parapsychologists to the meetings in Minsk. They tried to work against our candidate Aleksandr Lukashenko. After these meetings, the president would admit that he felt really exhausted. The pressure was great. These people worked quite professionally," member of the Supreme Council of Belarus (1990-1994), Belarusian politician Viktor Sheiman recalled.
